Dazed and Confused is a song recorded by Led Zeppelin for their debut album Led Zeppelin I. It appears as the 4th track of the album and closes Side A on vinyl releases. It was largely inspired by the Jake Holmes song of the same name, released in 1967. It's one of four songs from the album that appear on their compilation album Mothership.
Background[]
The song was inspired by the Jake Holmes song. However, Led Zeppelin's version has a different set of lyrics, written by Robert Plant.
Lawsuit[]
Holmes sued Jimmy Page in 2010 for copyright infringement. However, the case was settled out of court in 2011 for an undisclosed amount. The live album Celebration Day as well as future remasters of Led Zeppelin I all list the songwriter credit as "By Page - Inspired by Jake Holmes".
Live[]
The song was performed live at more than 400 concerts, typically in greatly extended forms. Performances of the song were usually anywhere from 20-30 minutes.
Lyrics[]
Been dazed and confused for so long, it's not true
Wanted a woman, never bargained for you
Lots of people talk and few of them know
Soul of a woman was created below, yeah
You hurt and abuse, tellin' all of your lies
Run 'round, sweet baby, Lord, how they hypnotize
Sweet little baby, I don't know where you've been
Gonna love you, baby, here I come again
Every day I work so hard, bringin' home my hard-earned pay
Try to love you, baby, but you push me away
Don't know where you're goin', only know just where you've been
Sweet little baby, I want you again
Ah, ah, ah, ah
Ah, ah, ah, ah
Ahh, ah
Ahh, ah, ah, ah, ah
Ahh, ah
Oh yeah, alright, alright
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah
Ah, ah, ah, ah
Ah, ah, ah, ah
I don't like when you're mystifyin' me
Oh, don't leave me so confused, now
Whoa, baby
Been dazed and confused for so long, it's not true
Wanted a woman, never bargained for you
Take it easy, baby, let them say what they will
Tongue wag so much when I sent you the bill
Oh yeah, alright
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, ah, ah, ah, ah
